SSEF Course Terms & Conditions

General Terms and Conditions for SSEF Courses

These General Terms and Conditions (GTC) govern the contractual relationship between the Schweizerische Stiftung für Edelsteinforschung (hereinafter “SSEF”) and the participant of the course (hereinafter “Student”).

  1. Registration and Payment

The course fee must be paid in full within seven calendar days of registration. Failure to remit payment within this period will result in the automatic cancellation of the Student’s registration without further notice.

  1. Cancellation Policy and Refunds

All cancellations must be submitted via written notice to SSEF.

The following refund policy applies based on the date of receipt of the written notice:

  1. Notice received between 2 months and 1 month prior to the course start date: Full refund, minus a 20% administration fee deducted from the total course fee.
  2. Notice received between 1 month and 2 weeks prior to the course start date: 50% refund of the total course fee.
  3. Notice received two weeks or less prior to the course start date: no refund will be issued.

SSEF reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any course at its discretion. In such an event, participants will be offered the choice of either a full refund of the course fee paid or a transfer of the registration to a future course. SSEF shall not be liable for any costs by the Student.

  1. Student Conduct and Termination

SSEF reserves the right to refuse admission or, if already registered, terminate registration of the Student at any point in time without assigning any reason.

The taking of photographs or the making of video or audio recordings within any SSEF premises, particularly the laboratory, is strictly prohibited without prior express written consent from SSEF.

  1. Intellectual Property

All course materials, including but not limited to lectures, presentations, PDFs, tests, and outlines, are the exclusive intellectual property of SSEF and are protected under Swiss copyright law.

The Student is granted a right to use course materials for personal, non-commercial study purposes only. Any unauthorised reproduction, distribution, public display, or creation of derivative works from the course materials, whether for commercial gain or otherwise, constitutes a material breach of this agreement and a violation of copyright law. SSEF reserves the right to pursue legal action for any such infringement.

  1. Data Protection and Security

By accepting these terms, the Student acknowledges and consents to the use of CCTV surveillance on SSEF premises. This surveillance is conducted for the sole purpose of ensuring the security of students, staff, and property, in compliance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP).

  1. Limitation of Liability

SSEF’s liability for any damages arising from or in connection with the course shall be limited to cases of intentional misconduct or gross negligence. Liability for slight negligence is expressly excluded.

  1. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the substantive laws of Switzerland. The exclusive place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising out of or in connection with this agreement shall be Basel, Switzerland.
