SSEF certification for black diamond restarts

Up to 1998, the detection of treated black diamonds comprised only irradiated stones.
Since 1998, very large quantities of HT (High Temperature) treated black diamonds of small size (from 1mm on) are on the market.

Because at this time no conventional gemmological means were useful to detect this new treatment, SSEF stopped to issue certificates for black diamonds and began an extensive research program on the identification of HT treated black diamond.

Today, SSEF is pleased to inform the trade that the laboratory has developed a spectroscopic method to distinguish most of HT treated black diamonds from untreated black diamonds.

This new service is available since July 2001.
